Heavy overnight rain made playing conditions difficult for Dunbar’s East Regional 1 encounter with Hawick Harlequins.

They took an early lead through the boot of Ross Charlton four minutes in. Quins then levelled the scores as Dunbar were caught offside in an cagey opening first half.

The visitors grabbed the opening try on the brink of half-time after a second Quins penalty. Greig Patrizio capitalised from a quick tap penalty to barge over and give Dunbar an 8-6 lead at the break. However, the Hawick side fought back in the second half and flexed their muscles. Two tries in quick succession gave them a 16-8 lead before Dunbar conceded once more.

With the score at 21-8, Dunbar found some momentum and scored a brace of tries through Sandy Thompson and John Peebles to reduce the deficit to a solitary point by they were unable to find the winning score in the final minutes.

The defeat has dealt a severe blow to the Hallhill’s side’s chance of promotion.
