Keeper Scott Lumsden was the latest to be added to the casualty list with Lenny Clark coming in to take over between the sticks.

A reshuffled back four, which included two 17-year-olds, coped admirably in the first half but two goals early in the second period decided the outcome.

The first half was a really close affair. Duns competed well and had a great chance to open the scoring when Gary Waddell was put through but his effort was well saved by the Students’ keeper.

The visitors also had a couple of good scoring chances but keeper Clark saved one effort with another going just wide of the target.

Two minutes into the second half the deadlock was eventually broken. The Students won a corner which was swung over and headed home by Danny Main.

The Dingers then lost James Brydon who had earlier taken a head knock and he was replaced by Luke Turner.

Three minutes later University doubled their lead when Ward hit the net with a superb effort from all of 25 yards which gave keeper Clark no chance.

Duns matched the visitors thereafter and had a couple of chances to pull a goal back. Seventeen-year-old striker Luke Turner hit the post on the turn and shortly after Mark Weatherburn was unlucky to see a University defender get the slightest of touches on a cross when he was all set to tap home from close range.

The Dingers continued to hold their own in midfield with fine performances by Des Chisholm, Connor Devanney and Andrew Douglas but the visitors were always in control and held out to progress through to the next round.

Duns: Clark, Burns, A. Renton, Stewart, Lee, Douglas, Waddell, Devaney, Weatherburn, D. Chisholm, Brydon. Subs: Turner, Bouchier, Whellans.
