Indie wins girls singles event

Indie Lucas of Duns Tennis Club won the Hastings and Co Borders 14 and Under Girls Singles Tennis Tournament.

Six different Borders clubs shared the spoils in the tournament held at Kelso Orchard Tennis Club. It was a great day for tennis with mostly sunshine but a slightly cool breeze for the spectators.

Tournament organisers on the day, Lee Brown and Chris Smith, ensured the continued running of matches. To keep the spectators enthralled there were quality and entertaining matches throughout the day with a high standard of stroke play and superb shots from all of the youngsters which should ensure the future of tennis in the Borders.

Borders Tennis Development Officer Ali McCulloch presented the trophies.

Results were as follows: Boys final - Lachlan Ferguson (Selkirk) beat Lewis Watt (Gala); Boys consolation final - Martin Goldie (Hawick) beat Luke Townsend (St Boswells); Girls final - Indie Lucas (Duns) beat Felicity Walls (Earlston).
