Chirnside Chasers hold their awards night
On Saturday night Chirnside Chasers held their awards night.
The golden trainer award went to Amanda Turner, the best performance of the year award went to George McMullan for his run at the Great North run earlier this year. Chirnside Chasers awarded two trophies to the most improved runners of the year and they went to Mandy Paterson and Nicola Williams for the huge progression they have made this year.
The Chirnside Chasers Committee Runner was awarded to Julie Kennedy and the Coaches Runner of the Year was given to Catherine Waugh who both started at the group from scratch and recently competed in their first race. Also on Saturday evening Chirnside Chasers were represented at the Scottish Athletics Annual Awards night in Glasgow where they were shortlisted for the JogScotland Community Group of the year.
There were a number of strong groups in this category and the winners were West Dunbartonshire, and all at Chirnside Chasers congratulate them. Just to be a finalist and invited to the awards was a great achievement for Chirnside Chasers. On Sunday morning, two Chirnside runners took part in the Jedburgh running festival, with George McMullan and Emma Jones both taking part in the half marathon. George ran a PB and a new Chirnside Chasers club record finishing in one hour 28 minutes and 50 seconds and finished in 60th place. While Emma, running her first race for a while, narrowly missed out on breaking the two hour barrier completing the course in two hours and 28 seconds. Well done to both runners.
Chirnside Chasers now has three training nights with a junior session for children aged 5-14 years on a Monday between 6pm and 7pm, meeting at Chirnside Football Club.
On Tuesday night there is a very sociable beginner walk/jog grout starting at 7pm. For those a bit more competitive there is an intermediate running group on a Wednesday night again starting at 7pm. These groups meet at the car park at the Crosshill in the centre of Chirnside, all ages welcome.
