Thomas Wightman (24) headed off to Paris this weekend to start a 6-month paid internship with international agency Ogilvy and Mather, after bosses spotted his work at an exhibition in London.
Based at their French headquarters, Thomas, who graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in June, will be involved in creating sculptural work, illustrative typography and motion graphics.
Before leaving for France, he said: “I was really overwhelmed to be offered this internship, not just because Ogilvy have such a high reputation in advertising but because I have always wanted to return to Paris after falling in love with the city during a six month university exchange.
“I’m looking forward to learning more about design from other talented people.
“Having a client list consisting of the likes of Coca-Cola and Louis Vuitton is surreal.”
The former Eyemouth High School pupil was set to start his new role on September 9.
Myrna MacLeod is Senior lecturer in Design at Edinburgh Napier.
When asked about the appointment, she said: “I’m delighted to see Thomas being snapped up by one of the world’s biggest advertising agencies.
“He has tremendous talent and I’m sure this is just the start of what will be a fabulous career.”
