The Sanctuary Spa in Seahouses is due to stage its launch event in the first week of October, following five months of work renovating the premises.
The business, owned by 34-year-old Kelly Preston, of Beadnell, has not only brought the former Dolphin nightclub building back into use, but also created six jobs – three hairstylists, two beauticians and one receptionist.
Kelly, who has a degree in business management, but has also completed a number of beauty courses, said she decided to start the business because there isn’t really anything like it in the area.
“The nearest place is Alnwick really,” she explained. “We have incorporated everything – hair, tanning rooms, beauty and there is a fish spa and gifts downstairs.
“We will appeal to a wide range of people and it’s really accessible in the centre of Seahouses by the harbour.
“My background is business management so that’s why I saw a huge opportunity.”
The premises had been out of use for many years and the spa takes up both the upstairs and downstairs, meaning a lot of work was needed to get to this stage.
“We spent about five months renovating because it was practically derelict, so it was a huge project,” added Kelly. “It’s really exciting now and people in the village seem to be quite excited about it, which is good.”
The six new employees are all local and well-trained – one of the beauticians is highly qualified, having worked up to this point at Doxford Hall.
“All staff members achieve a high level of professionalism and have undergone extensive training so you know you are in good hands,” added Kelly.
Designer products, such as Decleor Paris, CND Shellac nail care, Fake Bake tanning and L’Oréal Professionnel will be used in the salon.
