The 38 long stay spaces have been welcomed by staff and patients, and will free up more short stay spaces situated closer to the hospital for patients and visitors to uses.
Changes made in November 2013 to how parking is managed on the BGH site followed safety concerns raised by patients, visitors and staff. In particular the amount of inappropriate parking had become a major problem, making it difficult to drive around car parks, and causing concerns about the safety of our patients, visitors and staff.
Evelyn Rodger, Interim Director of Acute Services said: “Inappropriate parking on the Borders General Hospital site was increasing and was putting people at risk. We took action and continue to monitor the car parks.”
