Councils discuss affect of wind farms

Representatives of 11 community councils in Berwickshire and East Lothian attended a meeting to discuss how their areas are affected by wind farms.

Those who attended were East Lammermuir, Dunpender, Humbie, Garvald and Morham, Reston and Auchencrow, Grantshouse, Co’path and Cove, Abbey St Bathans, Gavinton, Duns and Cranshaws, Ellemford and Longformacus. Apologies were received from Coldingham and Gifford.

Also in attendance was Social Enterprise East Lothian (SEEL) and Energy Saving Trust Scotland.

The meeting was established primarily to discuss how each community council affected by wind farms could possible work together, offering each other advice and guidance.

The funding received from wind farms and how this was managed was discussed and it was noted East Lammermuir and Abbey St Bathans currently receive the largest proportion of funds, due to the amount of wind turbines in their area. SEEL provided suggestions on possibly using some of the funds togenerate employment within the local communities

The next meeting is on January 21, in Cockburnspath and it was suggested Berwickshire Housing Association be invited.
