WATCH: Ailsa Landels crowned 70th Eyemouth Herring Queen

Eyemouth was bathed in sunshine on Saturday afternoon as Ailsa Landels was crowned 2014 Eyemouth Herring Queen.

It was a special day for everyone involved as Ailsa’s crowning was the 70th in the festival’s history and the occasion was marked in terrific style with all of the former Herring Queens either there in person or represented by a relative.

Warm sunshine greeted Ailsa as she and her maids arrived in St Abbs to board the lifeboat and when she arrived at Gunsgreen she was met with cheers from both sides of the harbour.

The job of crowning Ailsa went to 2013 Queen Devon McNab who paid her tribute to her court for supporting her during a great year in the role.

After being crowned Ailsa thanked those who’d helped her, including her mum and dad who she said had been with her “every step of the way.”

Ailsa’s crowning kick started a busy week of events in Eyemouth with the fancy dress; Eyemouth’s Got Talent; baby show; four-legged race; dry boat race and torchlight parade all still to come.
