An Edinburgh-based duo will bring jazz to Ayton later this month.
Saxophone and piano duo Ian Millar and Dominic Spencer are stopping off at the coastal town as part of their ‘Jazz in the Village’ tour.
The duo has regularly and extensively toured Scotland. They have embarked on many rural tours, often bringing jazz for the first time to remote communities, performing in intimate settings. The beautiful Scottish scenery that they have seen on their travels has inspired the writing of many pieces of music by Ian.
Ian says: “Our experience of playing in halls up and down the country has been amazing and the acoustics in most of the halls are superb. We have experienced a warm and friendly atmosphere where the audiences know each other, creating truly inspirational settings for some wonderful evenings.”
Their style of jazz concentrates on developing melodic ideas within the framework of the melody of a tune, whilst maintaining the concept and groove behind it. The result is a very accessible melodic style which allows them to explore, improvise and develop ideas without losing the essence of each piece of music, and to interact together in as creative a way as possible.
Ian and Dominic will be at Ayton Community Hall on April 22 at 8pm. Tickets £8 from village shop or from Kat MacLeod 07769 117974. BYOB and nibbles. The concert is a fundraiser for the hall.
