Music at Paxton’s new initiative, Music at Paxton… Plus, a pair of two free Sunday afternoon concerts in the weeks leading up to the July festival, got off to a good start on Sunday with a packed Picture Gallery.

The talented flute and harp duo Hoot performed a mixed programme, from the soothing sounds of Debussy and Massenet to fiery tangos by Piazzolla, while also introducing the audience to some newer work by the less often performed Bax, Takemitsu and John Corigliano. The second of these concerts, which are presented as a partnership with the Paxton House Trust and Live Music Now Scotland, will take place on Sunday, June 16 at 2.30 and features the young female saxophone quartet, Sax Ecosse.
