Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival were the toast of north Northumberland last night, with the event and one of its stars taking home accolades at the Journal Culture Awards.
The festival itself took home the honours in the Best Event Northumberland category, being presented with the trophy by TV personality Fern Britton, while director of the festival’s opening film last year, Cecilia Stenbom was awarded the prize Best Visual Artist.
A thrilled festival director, Melanie Iredale, commented: “Being awarded a Journal Culture Award is such a fantastic tribute to the hard work of so many people who make the Festival what it is, and to the support of our audiences, we’re absolutely thrilled.
“It’s also such a huge encouragement as we prepare for what will be the Festival’s tenth anniversary edition this September, which is set to be even more ambitious than ever!”
On receiving Visual Artist of the Year Cecilia Stenbom said: “I’m absolutely delighted to receive a Journal Culture Award for my work last year, and producing The Case was a huge part of that.
“I was proud to premiere it at Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival and to see it tour to the likes of Rotterdam Film Festival.”
