Genre defying music

Award winning husband and wife duo, Rob and Sarah Skinner, bring their own unique brand of red dirt music to Eyemouth.

Origining in Oklahoma and Texas, red dirt music is a blend of blues, folk, country and honky tonk.

With Rob on guitar and drums and Sarah on sax and blues harp, with both singing, they deliver a style of music totally individual and one that doesn’t fit neatly into any single category.

The Red Dirt Skinners formed in 2011 but began under their current name in 2012 after their marriage. After touring in Europe in 2013 they became the first band in history to succeed at both the British Blues and the British Country Music awards.

Their instantly recognisable sound blends exceptional, almost telepathic, harmonies with the unique instrumentation of soprano saxophone and acoustic guitar.

Audiences everywhere are describing them as “refreshingly different”.

Both Rob and Sarah have extensive musical backgrounds. Sarah was classically trained on the clarinet and Rob came from a very musical family and played in bands from a young age. They write all their own material, Sarah composing the lyrics and Rob creating the unique chord sequences and stylings.

They will be performing live at Eyemouth Hippodrome on December 3 at 8pm, supported by local Eyemouth musician Andrew Valentine. Tickets £12.50.
