Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival’s annual Chris Anderson Award is now open for submissions.
Now in its fifth year, the prestigious prize aims to encourage and support budding young filmmakers in the north east and Scottish Borders.
Young people (aged 19 and under) are invited to submit their short films to compete for the accolade and a £200 cash prize. From the submissions, approximately 10 films will be nominated and entered into the competition to win the award.
The selected films will be screened as part of the Young Filmmakers Showcase at The Maltings during the ninth edition of Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, taking place from September 25-29. A jury of professional filmmakers and artists will deliberate and the overall winner will be announced at the event.
Previous juror of the Chris Anderson Award, Samm Haillay commented: “The Chris Anderson Award is a superb platform for young filmmakers to find a voice and have some fun. It give young people the opportunity to see their film on the big screen and gain feedback from the professional filmmakers and critics who sit on the Chris Anderson Award Jury. I was lucky enough to be part of the jury last year and I was impressed with the quality and inventiveness of the films submitted, these qualities are things we need to foster in the next generation of filmmakers in our region”.
The Young Filmmakers Showcase is just one of the many events taking place, and opportunities on offer, for children and young people to get involved with. The Festival’s growing learning and participation programme offers a series of film screenings and hands-on workshops for young people of all ages, as well as volunteer opportunities for those aged 16 and over.
