And the reason? Re-Take That’s return to Berwick for another evening of solid gold pop music.
The songs made famous by Gary Barlow et al have been written into the musical history books and the hugely popular tribute act were keen to give the audience a lesson in all things Take That.
It would be wrong for the show to start with anything other than ‘Greatest Day’ and from the speed in which the largely female crowd got up out of their seats, it was obvious that the song was their starting gun for a fun-filled two hours.
Like the real thing, Re-Take That aren’t afraid to go back to the cheesy 90s past, re-visiting the likes of ‘Pray’, ‘Relight My Fire’ and’’Everything Changes’.
But the old classic that prompted the most hysteria from the stalls was ‘It Only Takes A Minute’ - nothing to with an invite for four ladies to get on stage I’m sure!
The quartet eventually selected were each assigned a Re Take That member and promptly treated to their own private dance - I’m sure the screams could be heard from over the border!
While Gary, Mark, Howard and Jason take a breather, the final piece of the Take That jigsaw, Robbie Williams is enjoying considerable solo success so it’s only right that this was marked during the evening.’Let Me Entertain You’ is normally the big Robbie crowd pleaser but I’d say that accolade was snatched by ‘Candy’ on Friday night with the number one single going down a storm as the show hurtled towards the interval.
The second half united all five members to perform a mix of old and new hits including ‘Back For Good’ and ‘The Flood’.
Re-Take That would have been committing a serious Take That faux pas if they didn’t end with ‘Never Forget’ and like the rest of the concert, the reaction it received was phenomenal.
Re Take That are five guys at the top of their game. Everything from their vocals to their sound-alike speaking voices made you think you were at a Take That concert.
But the thing that clinched it was the response the guys got from the audience. This was my fourth time reviewing a Re-Take That show but for my money it was the loudest yet!
