Sailing enthusiast, Steve Gibbon, Chairman of the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) North East Region, will be swapping his boat for a bike over the early May Bank Holiday when he cycles 350 miles in four days, visiting every sailing club in the north east and raising money for charity along the way.

From 1 to 4 May Steve will cycle all the way down the coast from Berwick Sailing Club to Scaling Dam, via the Shields Ferry and the Tees Transporter Bridge, then over the North Pennines to Teesdale and Derwent Reservoir, finally arriving at Kielder Water Sailing Club on Bank Holiday Monday.

“I hope this RYA North East cycling marathon will raise awareness of the fabulous sailing facilities in our region,” said Steve Gibbon. “Over £500,000 has been invested in clubs and equipment over the past few years and the aim is to encourage people, young and old, to Push The Boat Out and give sailing a go.”

“Push The Boat Out is a great opportunity to get out and try sailing or windsurfing at a local club which will give you a warm welcome and help to get you started in the sport and we will be raising money for Ocean Youth Trust North as we cycle along.”
