PRINCESS Anne visited Reston to officially open the indoor riding arena at Sunnyside and visit Reiver Country Farm Foods. The Princess Royal, president of the Riding for the Disabled watched three eight minute displays by 26 young riders from the Berwickshire RDA group before presenting them with rosettes.

WHEN the South East Scotland Local Employment Committee met the Provost of Duns, Rev M .McCallum, referred to the”tragic” position Duns was in by the closure of the branch factory of Ballantyne Sportswear Co Ltd, due on October 12. Sixteen workers are affected - a large number for a small burgh.
THE farm of Baitstrand, Berwick, extending to 188 acres of arable land, the property of Mr P.L. Edwards, has been sold privately. The price is substantially more than the upset price of £25,000 it was revealed.

THE crew of the Nellie Wilson, St Abbs have been awarded 10s each by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in recognition of the prompt and gallant service they rendered some weeks ago to the fishing smack. Agnes and Isabella, which was in a sinking condition off Eyemouth.
OWING to the invasion of tramps at this season in many parts of Berwickshire, farmers have adopted precautions in the matter of night watching their stackyards in order to prevent people taking up quarters overnight.
