Berwick Bandits Speedway Club has been informed by the British Speedway Promoters Association (BSPA) that all domestic league racing in the UK has been postponed for 2020.

“Naturally, your FTS Bandits management team is collectively very disappointed but fully respects the decision made by the directors of the sport,” said Bandits’ publicist Lawrence Heppell.

Writing on the club website, he added: “While we may not be able to experience the thrill of league racing in 2020, your Berwick Bandits Speedway Club promotion is working hard behind the scenes to ensure the fans, sponsors and riders are able to attend, enjoy and benefit from competitive live racing this year in a safe and enjoyable environment.

“Shielfield Park Stadium is blessed with a large capacity and the club feels very strongly that spectators can attend our open-air, non-contact events with confidence and enjoy their racing.

“With this in mind, plans are currently being drawn up and your Bandits management team is keen to put together entertaining speedway for the fans on our new Shielfield Park circuit in the near future.”

Mr Heppell reiterated that the club planned to move forward and innovate throughout “these extremely tough times” and was committed to staging live speedway racing in 2020.

Season passes would be carried over into 2021 and season pass holders would be invited to attend any/all 2020 events free of charge.

Sponsors’ adverts for 2020 will carry over into the 2021 season and sponsors will continue to receive exposure via www.berwickspeedway.com and within the stadium, throughout the remainder of 2020 and the entirety of 2021.

The Bandits management team intends to run at the same level, with the same lineup, when league racing gets the green light in 2021.

When more details are established, the club plans to release more information on a 2020 event schedule.

A new online ticketing system will be in full usage for future events.

Current merchandise ranges will be released for purchase asap and all designs and garments will be classed as the 2020-21 range.

The club praised its sponsors, fans, volunteers, riders and mechanics for their continued and loyal commitment to Berwick Speedway through “these tough times”, adding: “Our commitment to you is to continue to strive to bring you the best speedway we can as soon as possible.”
