An early season start for Berwick Wheelers sees them host the inaugural Reivers Road Race this coming weekend, Saturday, March 22.
This is the first event of the newly formed East of Scotland Road Race series.
The race is open to 3/4 category riders starting at 11am from Etal and has a full field of 60 riders competing.
The 58km (36 miles) course is based around a Ford & Etal – Lowick - Ancroft circuit and should provide for some excellent racing with a challenging circuit for those who want to prove their early season form.
This is the club’s first road race in a long time, on a new course and on some fairly quiet Northumberland roads. The two circuits of 28km have an early 2km climb though the village of Ford, which will be a great spot for spectators.
The race offers plenty of attacking opportunities with hills countered by fast rolling roads. The finish is on an uphill, unclassified section of road just up past Hay Farm after the village of Etal. Race headquarters will be located in Etal Village Hall where there will be refreshments available after the event and ample parking.
