Guy Learmonth was in outstanding form at the weekend winning the Vienna classic 800m indoor race.
Learmonth won in a new personal best of 1.47.35, the fastest time in Europe this season and second fastest in the world.
Along with coach Henry Gray, the Berwick athlete has just come back from a two week spell of warm weather training in Villamoura in Portugal and it certainly seems to have paid dividends. Learmonth is now only one second behind Tom McKean’s Scottish indoor record and could well challenge that in the Diamond League race in Glasgow on February 20.
Guy and Henry would like to thank Terri Smith from the Sweatshop Gym in Eyemouth for the use of their excellent strength and conditioning facility recently.
Learmonth’s training partner Cameron Tindle was also in impressive form f setting a new pb of 6.88sec for 60m at the Scottish DChampionships at the Glasgow Emirates stadium. He finished in third place, just behind World and European champion Richard Kilty from Middlesborough.
Cameron is ranked No 3 in Europe for his age group indoors at 200m and will be hoping for top runs in both the British under 20s and senior championships.
Patrick Swan of Chirnside made a welcome return to form in the 200m running a fast 22 seconds.
