A group of seven youngsters from TF Fitness in Berwick travelled to Birmingham recently to compete in the BJJ Junior National Championships.
This is the biggest BJJ junior event in Europe and the fighters enjoyed some success, returning with several medals.
Two of them, Matheos Ferreira (6) and Abbi Rae (12) both won gold medals and were crowned British champions.
Isla Roberts (7) won a silver medal and Jevon Leighton and Ewan Lowrie (both aged 12) both came back with bronze.
The others competing were Mackenzie Graham (6) and Cody Leighton (6).
After only 18 months of organisation and hard work, coach Thiago Ferreira (pictured with the competitors) has been rewarded with a group of youngsters who are amongst the best in the country.
Some of them have already been able to join in the National Elite BJJ Team based in Bournemouth and will take part in International competitions in the future.
“Obviously I am so proud of these kids, some of who train six times a week ,” said Thiago.
“But my next big goal is the World Championships in California, beginning next year and for sure we are going to bring a World title to Berwick. I would like to thank everyone who believes in our job and especially to Tustain Motors for sponsoring our kids.”
