Two months to go, but planning for this year’s Jim Clark Rally and Jim Clark Reivers Rally started even before last year’s event had begun.
This year’s events, scheduled to run over the weekend of Friday 30th May to Sunday June 1st will feature a number of changes, including one major re-location in Kelso.
Due to a clash of dates at Kelso Racecourse, the rally Service and Technology Park will be based on the other side of Kelso at Springwood Park Showground on Friday and Saturday before transferring to Duns for the Sunday run.
According to Jim Clark Rally, Clerk of the Course, Russel Blood: “The change will be good for the event and for spectators. Kelso Racecourse has been good to us over the years, and we managed to cope with a wedding reception in the Clubhouse at the same time as the rally last year, but the Showground opens up many more possibilities.”
Russel wouldn’t be drawn on the detail: “We are planning to put on a show in Springwood Park, but I can’t say much more than that at this stage, but given the scope of the Showground and the tarmac road running around it has given us a few ideas.”
Not to be outdone, Clerk of the Course for Sunday’s Jim Clark Reivers Rally, Colin Smith said: “Russel and I have been planning this for some time, and although the bigger event will be based at the Showground in Kelso and the one-day event in Duns, we have got some exciting plans to enhance the spectator experience on the Sunday too.”
This year’s rally weekend event will feature events counting towards:
· MSA British Rally Championship
· Ford Fiesta Sport Trophy
· Citroen Racing Trophy
· Twingo Renaultsport Trophies UK
· REIS MSA Asphalt Rally Championship
· North of England Tarmacadam Rally Championship
· Northern Historic Rally Championship
· MSA ARR Craib Scottish Rally Championship
· Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship
· SG Petch ANECC Stage Rally Championship
· Borders Rally Championship
Last year the Jim Clark Rally attracted 267 entries, which meant 534 individual crew members from all four corners of the UK (and further afield!) descended on the Borders with an additional 1,000 support crew members and of course dozens of volunteer marshals and officials.
The Jim Clark Rally and Reivers Rally will again be supported by Scottish Borders Council.
