Seventeen-year-old Jamie Thorburn from Duns is following in his father’s trye marks and making a name for himself in the high speed sport of Formula Ford motor racing.
Jamie is the son of former Scottish FF1600 champion Stuart Thorburn, and he has just completed his first year in the sport finishing a very creditable sixth overall in the Scottish Motor Racing Club (SMRC) Scottish Formula Ford Championship.
Jamie is part of the SMRC Rising Stars Programme to promote young driving talent in Scotland. In his final two championship races of the season at Knockhill he qualified third for both and finished a strong third in both.
This rounded off the season well as he has been on the podium for the last four races of the championship. Unfortunately he had to miss two rounds of the series when he was away with the school in France but has still managed to finish sixth.
Now its on to Brands Hatch on the weekend of October 24/25 when Jamie will race for the Scottish team at the Formula Ford Festival. The following weekend he will be competing at Silverstone For the Walter Hayes Trophy.
