THE World Grand Prix Qualifying round at Berwick wil go ahead tonight thanks to covers protecting the track from rain.

The afternoon practice session was cancelled, but track covers at Shielfield have done their job and will remain in place for as long as necessary ahead of the big race itself.

BSPA Chairman Alex Harkess said at lunchtime: “I’m aware that it’s raining in places such as Edinburgh and Glasgow, but here we’ve had drier conditions and the track covers have worked superbly.

“The practice session has been postponed in order for us to leave the covers in place for now and make sure the meeting goes ahead, but we’ve had a look under one of them and the track is spot-on.

“The meeting is definitely on with a 7pm start, and we’re expecting a tremendous night of racing.”
