SCOTTISH gymnast Steve Frew, a former Commonwealth gold medallist, and Guy Learmonth one of Britain’s top 800m runners, were guests of honour at the annual Total Aquatics swimming camp held at Eyemouth Leisure Centre last week.
Steve gave a very motivational talk and spoke about the highs and lows of his career. This included becoming the only Scotsman ever to win a Commonwealth gold medal in gymnastics in the men’s ring event.
He was an international gymnast for 23 years and competed in five Commonwealth Games and two World Championships for Great Britain. He is now a Sky Sports commentator and a mentor for young up and coming athletes.
Guy Learmonth, from Berwick, also talked about his career so far which includes finishing fifth in the recent Olympic trials and becoming the fastest teenager in indoor history over 800m.
It was a very positive experience for all the young swimmers who attended the camp, and thanks go to Oliver Kieran from Eyemouth for securing the services of a truly world class sportsman/motivator.
