Callum Smith from Gordon in Berwickshire celebrated a gold medal success in the U13 badminton tournament in Leicester at the weekend.
Playing with partner Kenneth Cheung, who also won a bronze in the singles, the pair lifted the title at the Catmose Sports Centre.
Smith and Cheung’s first game in their group was a re-run of the Nottingham final against Green and Pillai with the Scots boys coming out on top winning 21-9, 16-21, 21-17.
They followed that up with a 21-11, 21-11 win over Michael Pritchard and Alexander Tosney to progress to the semi-finales as group winners.
The semi was a tense match against Mitchell and Leung, which could have gone either way but once more the Scots were cool under pressure. They faced two match points in the third but kept their nerve to win 19-21, 21-11, 22-20.
The final was against William Atkin and Jack Taylor who won the gold event at High Wycombe. In a very close game Smith and Cheung ran out winners 22-20, 21-19.
