Local sprinter Cameron Tindle is celebrating this week after a double call-up to the international stage.
The 17 year-old from Berwick, who is trained by Henry Gray, has been named in the GB squad for the World Youth Games in Columbia and for the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.
Tindle, who won the New Year Sprint in Edinburgh, will fly out to Columbia next week for the World Youth Games, which are being held between July 15 and 19.
He will run in the 200m and coach Gray says that if he performs well there is no reason why he shouldn’t make a final.
“Cameron is currently number one in Europe for his age,” said Gray.
“He has had a tremendous year so far, and for someone who has only been running for only two years, the progress he has made is almost unheard of.”
Tindle will also travel to Samoa for the Commonwealth Youth Games which are being held in September, where he will contest both the 100m and 200m.
“These events will be a big step up for him,” said Gray, “but it is all part of his learning curve. I think he has a big future in the sport.”
