Berwick Speedway will return to a full seven man team this week when they continue their Premier League challenge with a home meeting against in-form Sheffield.
The Bandits have drafted in Hynek Stichauer from the Czech Republic as a replacement for Slovenian Matic Voldrih, who has now been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.
Stichauer, who is a former Czech U19 champion, last raced for the Bandits in 2011 when he was unlucky to suffer an unfortunate shoulder injury.
“Losing Matic was a big blow” admitted co-promoter Dennis McCleary. “As soon as we knew he was out of speedway for six months or more, we considered our options. Some riders were too expensive, others were interested in coming but might have missed too many meetings through other commitments – each time we talked to Hynek, the deal seemed a no-brainer that he could, and would come back to Berwick!”
“He was third in the Slovenian Championship meeting in which Matic crashed. He races for Pardubice in the Czech Extraleague – and best of all, doesn’t expect to miss a single Bandits’ match in 2015.”
