COLDSTREAM captain John Crawford has won the East of Scotland First Division player of the year award for 2011/12.

The striker has missed the last two weeks through suspension, but has been collecting trophies rather than goals in his absence.

Crawford, who lives in Eyemouth, also picked up the First Division top scorer award after finding the net 43 times.

“Winning the player of the year award came as a surprise,” said Crawford. “I didn’t even know I’d been nominated.

“It was definitely the best season I’ve ever had in terms of goals and one of the most enjoyable I’ve ever had. I’ve had seasons when I’ve played as well, but without getting the goals to back it up.”

Crawford has only scored twice so far this term, but is aiming for 25 over the whole season.

He added: “I’m never going to repeat last season. There are more goals throughout the team this season, where as everyone looked for me in the box last season. The most important thing is that the team are winning.”
