Chirnside Boxing Club made its mark on the Renton ABC show at the weekend, with its two competing boxers returning home with victories under their belts.
With club coaches Kevin Noon and Michael Black in their corner, Caitlin Black and Robbie White both bounced back from defeats last week to record good wins at Dumbarton Burgh Hall.
Black’s victory came against home boxer Caitlin Kelly in a relatively close bout over 3x1min rounds. The Chirnside youngster put the disappointment of a defeat at Wolverhampton last week to the back of her mind to produce an impressive performance, taking the contest to her opponent from the first bell and remaining on the front foot throughout to win by a split decision.
After suffering a narrow defeat by a split decision on the Birtley show in Newcastle last week, in a contest which his corner thought he had the better of, White defeated Jamie McLean from Argo ABC.
He controlled the bout from start to finish as he slipped under punches well with slick body movement and used good combinations in attack.
“Robbie fully deserved the unanimous points win with a display any boxer would be proud of,” commented club coach Michael Black.
Elsewhere Mark Tully suffered a first round defeat at the Leith Victoria show. Boxing against home boxer Ross Hunter, Tully was put under pressure from the start. He came back with strong punches of his own but Hunter’s strength showed and soon after an eight count near the end of the first round, the referee brought a halt to the contest.
