Berwick Wheelers

The club season has come to a close. The last race was the club Hillclimb Championship held on Hardens Hill.

Ten riders took to the start just up the road from Duns Golf Club on what can very often be a very deceptive slope.

Tim Caine produced an excellent time in the conditions to take the win in 7.41, Andrew Beeke pushed hard for second in 8.12 and Will Scorey took an unexpected third in 8.33.

Many of the club riders are still competing in open events until the end of September.

Neil Wilson and Brian Lindsay raced in the Stay Classy 25 down in Cramlington. Neil finished, disappointed, with a new PB by eight seconds of 1.03.44, Brian finished ninth overall and knocked over a minute off his best time in 1.00.41. Harry Armstrong took the honours in the club’s Simpsons Malt best all-rounder championship, which totals each riders best times on club courses throughout the season over 10, 15 and 25 miles. His total was 1.50.09, Chris Isats came second on 1.52.10 and Tim third with 2.00.44.

Joyce Mark took the ladies title in a new club record 2.12.22 with Karen Haldane second and Alison Kerr third. Joyce again took top honours in the veterans standards with +14.13, Tim +13.33 and Doug Robertson rounded out the top three.

The club will hold its end of season group ride over a hilly 67 mile course on September 30, meeting at Café Questo by the Harbour in Eyemouth for a 9.30am start. Please let Andrew Beeke know through the website forum if you intend to come so we can organise enough tables at the café stop in Duns.

So, a great season for the Wheelers, lots of open overall and category wins, excellent turnouts for the club time trials despite the weather, a huge number of new PB’s and plenty to take into what we are sure will be a very competitive 2013 season, which is also the clubs 25th anniversary year. We ride through the winter as well, just at a little more sedate pace, with a regular club run meeting on Sundays at Chrinside.
