Berwick rowers compete on Tyne

The River Tyne staged two rowing events on Saturday over a 5km course. The morning event saw round three of the North East Rowing Long Distance Sculls Event with great conditions considering the forecast.

Robin Morrison and Chris Eke in Mas C double finished in 18:04.5, followed by Alison Inglis and Hilary Cairns W Mas C double 19:17.7, Gordon Benton and Alan Robertson Mas G double 19:29.1 and Harry Black and Ian Smith Mas F double 19:51.2. The first single sculler to finish was Ian Black Mas C single (pictured) in his first long distance sculls event for 12 years, finishing in 20:06.9, followed by Andrew Cairns J16 single 20:25.1, Elvira Drummond WIM2 single 21:07.3 and Lauren Adams WIM3 single 22:52.9. Prizes were awarded to Alan Robertson and Gordon Benton for fastest Mas E/F/G double and Ian Black for fastest Mas C single.

Tyne United Rowing Club were hosts for the afternoon event. Ian Black, Harry Black, Arthur Wood and Ian Smith were first Berwick crew to finish in Mas F quad sculls 19:51.9, Alison Inglis and Hilary Cairns joined forces with their Durham rivals W Mas C quad sculls 20:08.0, Chris Eke and Robin Morrison Mas C double 21:00.3, Andrew Cairns J16 single 23:30.7 and Elvira Drummond WIM2 single 24:06.6. Prizes were awarded to Alison Inglis, Hilary Cairns and Durham for fastest women’s boat and to Elvira Drummond for fastest WIM2 single scull.
