Berwick faced Morpeth 2nds at home on Saturday and with both teams have only been beaten once so far this season they knew a tough match was in prospect.
Both teams started well but it was Berwick who got on the score sheet first when Linzi Hogg knocked in a penalty corner rebound.
However, their lead didn’t last long and Morpeth brought the score level when the forward line broke through the Berwick defence.
From a great clearance and some quick midfield passing Michelle Stewart got her first of the match when she slipped the ball past the Morpeth keeper.
Berwick kept the pressure on and were awarded a penalty corner which was hammered into the bottom corner by Stewart. Stewart then got Berwick’s fourth goal when she broke through the Morpeth defence and smashed the ball into the top corner.
But it was Morpeth who had the final say in the first half when their centre forward slotted the ball past the Berwick keeper, making the score 4-2 at half time.
The second half got off to a slow start but Stewart thumped the ball past the Morpeth keeper to make it 5-2. But the visitors hit back and scored twice to tighten it up at 5-4 .
Berwick won another penalty corner and they went for a training session move which paid off, when Haley Garland sent a well timed strike into the bottom corner of the goal, only for it to be helped over the line by Hogg.
Next week Berwick are away to Medics 2.
