Norham Running Club hosted their annual Castle Bank Challenge last Thursday at Norham.
This 6km multi-terrain race, run on a time trial basis, takes in two circuits of the village with two punishing climbs to Norham Castle.
Last year’s race was postponed due to torrential rain but this year’s event was bathed in evening sunshine for the 42 competitors taking part. This number of runners was the highest numbers taking part for many years.
Race winner was Kelso AC’s Ben Smith in an impressive 18 minutes and 54 seconds. Darrell Hastie was second in 19.27 with Gala’s Nathan Cox third overall and winner of the M13 category in 19.28. First veteran and fifth overall was Alnwick Harrier’s Bruce Crombie in 19.57.
First female and 23rd overall was Norham’s Hannah Humphreys in 26.38, followed by club mate Caroline Tyser in 28.39. Third female was Chirnside Chasers Katie Massie in 32.12.
In the Juniors race it was another Kelso AC runner, Josh Abbott who won in 16.11. Chirnside Chasers Ben Reynolds was 2nd in 17.33 closely followed by club mate Harry Fuller in 17.37. Robbie Paulin was 4th in 19.02.
Norham Running Club would like to thank James H Greenwood & Co (Chartered Accountants) for their generous sponsorship of the event.
