Berwick’s David Bellego has qualified for the World U21 championship series.
The Frenchman missed Saturday’s KO Cup meeting against Sheffield at Shielfield as he was racing in the World U21 qualifier at Stralsund in Germany.
He won two of his five races, finished second in two others and retired in his last.
His ten point haul was enough to give him the fifth qualifying place along with Piotr Pawlicki of Poland, who was the meeting winner on 13 points, Mikkel Michelsen and Nicklas Porsing of Denmark, who both scored 11, and Kacper Gomolski of Poland, who also scored 10.
Bellego, who is due to celebrate his 21st birthday next week (May 15), has made no secret of the fact that he wants to do well in this year’s championship, as it will be his last.
“I have made steady progress over the past couple of seasons,” he said, “but I know this is my last chance to do well in the U21s. I am racing in Britain and Poland, I have spent a lot of money on my equipment this year so I want to make a go of it.”
