Berwick’s number one rider, Edward Kennett has been named by Great Britain as part of the four-man team to contest their opening round of this year’s Speedway World Cup.

The meeting will be held at Elite League track King’s Lynn on Monday, July 15 when GB will go head to head with Denmark, Sweden and the USA.

The winners will go direct to the final in Prague in the Czech Republic the following weekend, with the second and third placed teams contesting the semi-final race-offs, also be to held in Prague.

The other qualifying group, featuring Poland, Australia, Russia and Latvia, will be held in Częstochowa, Poland on Saturday, July 13.

Kennett will ride alongside established internationals Chris Harris and Tai Woffinden, with on-form Edinburgh and Belle Vue rider Craig Cook making up the quartet on his debut.

GB team manager Neil Middleditch said :“I’ve gone for experience with Edward Kennett rather than throwing in two debutants. I know he can do a job for the team in this meeting.

“It was a hard call and congratulations to Cookie, I’m delighted for the lad and I made the final decision based on statistics and when I’ve seen him.

“Riders like Richie Worrall, Ben Barker and Danny King can count themselves very unlucky, but there is an opportunity for me to change things if necessary should we progress to the latter stages in Prague.

“It’s going to be a tough meeting but I have every faith in my boys to do their country proud and I’m sure we will enjoy fabulous support as we always do in this event.”
