Longridge Towers School Under-18s won the Emmanuel Sevens rugby competition in superb style.
Despite the school having a very small senior squad, they were the most technically proficient team on the day. Captained by Stuart Crichton of Dunbar, they operated a very impressive six man “press” in defence and controlled the ball in open play with slick passing and quick thinking.
Blair Hutchison from Kelso was voted Player of the Day.
Tim Manning, head teacher, said: “This was a fantastic achievement for the team. They all played superbly and as we have fewer individuals to choose from than many of the larger schools we are all delighted.”
Longridge drew 0-0 with Durham Schools IIs and beat Dame Allans 15-0 to reach the semi-finals, where they overpowered Kings Academy, Middlesbrough 15-0. And in a closely contested final they got the better of hosts Emmanuel College 17-12.
The squad was composed of: Stuart Crichton (captain), Jamie Faed, Blair Hutchison, Jamie Thompson, Carvin Tang, Tom Grindell, Chris Williamson and Josh Brunning.
