Shennan signs off with a hat-trick

PEEBLES ROVERS 2 EYEMOUTH UNITED 4: Eyemouth striker Stevie Shennan signed off for the season when he bagged a hat-trick in his team’s final game of the season on Monday.

Shennan’s treble at a rain-lashed Netherdale in Gala made it 38 league and cup goals for the season.

He opened the scoring after 20 minutes when he rounded a defender and shot past the keeper.

Peebles equalised, but just five minutes before half-time Mark Bolton, in his final game for the team fired the Fishermen back in front with a 20 yard strike.

In the second half Bolton then turned provider, feeding Shennan who headed in over the top of the keeper to make it 3-1.

Peebles again came back with a screamer of a goal from all of 35 yards who gave Adam Mutch no chance,

But with just five minutes to go Shennan made the game safe when he notched his third after good work by Logie down the left.

The result meant Eyemouth finished the season in fifth place in the table and afterwards a delighted manager Carl Hudson said:

“It was nice to end with a win and to finish fifth in the league probably exceeded all our expectations because this has been a very difficult year for us.”
