Lowick Ladies 6-7 Blyth Ladies(After extra-time)
Lowick started this game with key players missing due to running the Great North Run.
This showed as Blyth started the game the brighter of the two sides, but it was Lowick who scored first with an interception by Kirstie Tang putting a through ball for Michelle Stewart to slot home.
Blyth reacted immediately, but Laura Powell in Lowick’s goal was off her line quick, this set up Lowick for their second, with a quick release which saw Sally Dawson’s fierce drive put Lowick two up.
Straight from the re-start Stewart was released through the middle to make it 3-0.
Lowick thought they were cruising but soon found Blyth back in the game with two quick goals, with Lowick’s defence switching off again.
Two minutes later Lowick scored to make it 4-2 with a bullet header from Amy Hately, as she met the ball from a out swinging corner on the edge of the 18 yard box.
The game swung from end to end with both teams having further chances in the first half.
The second half saw Blyth score more or less straight from the kick off with a fine lob which gave the Lowick ‘keeper no chance. Blyth then got a penalty, but this was well saved by Powell.
But it was an unfortunate mistake from Powell that gave Blyth their equaliser.
The game was still evenly matched but it was Lowick who scored in the 81st minute with a great individual goal by Stewart to complete her second hat-trick in as many weeks, Lowick thought that was enough but Blyth scored deep into injury time to force the tie into extra time.
This gave Blyth the momentum, yet another ball that out-foxed the Lowick defence to put Blyth in front for the first time in the match.
They quickly scored again to make it 5-7. Lowick pulled one back with new signing Amy O’Neill scoring on her debut. It made another tense finish to the game but Lowick couldn’t find another goal.
All the players gave 110 per cent and new manager Adam Purvis couldn’t have asked for any more from his players.
Lowick hope to get back to winning ways this Sunday when they are away to Prudhoe in the league.
