BERWICK RANG RES 4 LEITH ATHLETIC 1 Berwick Reserves followed up their 2-1 midweek victory at Coldstream with this win over another side in the promotion pack.
Grant McNicoll played his first full competitive 90 minutes of the season and did a good job anchoring the defence though was also responsible for conceding two penalties.
The early pressure came from Leith. When Berwick got into their stride, three separate scintillating attacks fell victim to offsides. In addition, Callum Wyllie hit one post, Greig Smith the other, before Allan Hay rose unchallenged to head in Wyllie’s 40th minute corner.
Smith missed a couple of good chances soon after the change round. There followed a spell of Leith domination when they equalised from the spot. McNicoll tripped Euan Campbell who took the kick himself.
Leith were caught off guard in the 76th minute when Phil Addison unexpectedly unleashed a bouncer from just outside the box.
After this, the Leith midfield caved in and Berwick scored twice within a minute through Wyllie, after his first attempt was blocked, and O’Brien
Near the end, Campbell took another penalty after McNicoll fouled Lewis Cairns. The psychic Tufail again went the right way throwing himself across the goal to push away the ball to keep the final score at 4-1.
