After the recent Minor Cup abandonment the eagerly awaited rematch between these sides proved to be a bit of an anti-climax.

Wooler had several players missing through injury and holidays and with the reserve team squad cup-tied Wooler only had the bare 11 players. The home team started brightly retaining possession well and creating scoring opportunities.

The breakthrough came after 20 minutes when, after pulling off a tremendous save, McGuire in the visitors’ goal fumbled the rebound and James Scott pounced to fire home from close range.

By now Wooler looked to be in complete control but the turning point came after 25 minutes when Jamie Punton had to leave the field of play with an ankle injury.

The home team now had to play out the match with 10 men and to their credit they attempted to retain possession and did create scoring opportunities.

In the second half the visitors had the benefit of a gusty wind and Wooler began to defend more deeply.

The equaliser came from a corner with Adams at hand to score at the back post. Shortly afterwards a good strike by Lynch sealed the victory.
