Eyemouth started this Alex Jack Cup tie in good form and Alan Spiers shot wide in the third minute

The game turned into a midfield battle with Tynecastle trying to swamp it with five across and it blew up in the 14th minute when James Wilson was caught late then had a Mexican stand-off with their number 8, for which both received yellow cards..

In the 18th minute the deadlock was broken with a swift passing move by Tynecastle up their left hand side before shooting under Eyemouth keeper Mutch. Within four minutes Eyemouth were almost level with a chance from Buckley but he narrowly missed the target.

A substitution and switch of formation for Eyemouth allowed them to go in search of an equaliser, but in the 43rd minute a lapse in concentration from Sean Williamson with a short back pass allowed the home forward to slot another past Mutch which sent them in 2-0 at the break.

Eyemouth came out all guns blazing in the second half but were caught on the break for Tynecastle to slot in a third. John Watt replaced Connor Lough up front and made an instant impact charging down the Tynie keeper’s clearance and calmly passing into the open net.

This goal gave the fishermen a lift and in the 76th minute they got their reward with a clinical finish from Buckley, but it was too, little too late.

Eyemouth: Mutch, Speirs, McInnes, Wyman, Walker, Williamson, Jess, Wilson, Lauder, Lough , Buckley.
