Third defeat in row as Reserves crash to Hibs

Berwick Reserves crashed to a third successive East of Scotland League defeat at the Hibernian Training Centre in East Lothian.

Yet in midweek, they drew 3-3 at Ochilview against Stenhousemuir in the SPFL Reserve League, a match they were desperately unlucky not to win.

A questionable penalty got Stenny back into the game when Berwick were 2-1 up and well on top. Dean Carse, Shaun Meikle and Josh Morris were the scorers for Berwick who also included Paul Grant and Ross Gray in their starting eleven.

Against Hibs, Jonny Fairbairn was the only player with competitive first team experience. The Hibs’ team was little changed from that which started at Shielfield last month when they won by a single goal. This time, an equally close contest was never on the cards.

The home side were 5-0 up at half time and added another three after the break.

Berwick’s woes were compounded when James Elliot was forced to leave the field after receiving a head knock ten minutes from time.
