Six-shooters Eyemouth bounce back

Easthouses Lily 2 Eyemouth United 6

Eyemouth bounced back from their double-figure cup mauling at Lothian Thistle the week before with a capital show against Easthouses.

United, who were highly embarrassed by their performance against LT, were eager to please and determined to put things right.

They started off strongly and Connor Lough gave them an early lead with a well taken goal from a Stevie Shennan knock-down.

Lough then added a second with a clinical finish from inside the box, but almost immediately Easthouses pulled one back when they scored from a long ball over the top to the back post.

Shennan then missed a penalty, but Bolton hammered in a third to put the Fishermen well in control at the interval.

Manager Carl Hudson stressed the importance of keeping it tight and not conceding, but just two minutes into the second half a mix-up at the back saw Eyemouth concede a corner and the home side pegged it back to 3-2 with a well taken header.

Eyemouth might have buckled at this stage, but they dug deep and stretched away in the final stages.

Lough completed his hat-trick with the fourth goal, Shennan blasted in the fifth and substitute James waltzed through the home defence before neatly finishing off with the sixth.

Hudson was well pleased with the performance and the result, which now makes it six wins out of seven in the league, putting the Berwickshire side just four points off the top with a game in hand.

“The lads bounced back well from the previous week,” said Hudson, “and I was proud of them for the way they went about their business. There’s still a long way to go though and we’re not getting carried away.”
