Berwick Reserves warmed up for this Saturday’s Shielfield clash with Hibs Reserves with this straightforward win in Fife. They included their latest acquisition, Jordan Davidson from East Fife, in defence.

Rangers were so much in control that keeper Lyle Sloan did not have a save to make all match.

The Shipyard’s Brendan Napier’s off target drive was followed by one from Berwick’s James Elliot before the visitors opened the scoring with a 30th minute penalty from Ross Brady. Alan Clark impeded Greig Tulloch in the air as they went for a high ball close to goal. Tulloch was injured in the process and was replaced by Keith Buckley. There was surprise even in the home camp that Clark escaped with only a yellow card.

Nine minutes later, Dean Carse collected a through ball and rounded goalkeeper Jordan Mushet to hit the ball into an empty net. Carse almost got another early in the second half. A headed back pass by Gavin Bridges lacked power. The pacy Carse beat Mushet to the ball but his shot hit the outside of the post.

Napier saw a 22yard free kick narrowly clear Sloan’s bar. Then his clever free kick reached Masson whose delivery across the 6 yard line found no takers and Berwick tied up the game two minutes from time. A long ball dropped at the edge of the box where Mushet’s hesitancy was punished by Buckley who made it 3-0.

Berwick: Sloan, Davidson, Tainsh, Saunderson (Bennett), Gill, Brady, Elliot, Anderson (Meikle), G.Tulloch (Buckley), Carse, Turner.
