A few miles from where they were hammered by Hibs Reserves the previous weekend, Berwick Reserves bounced back with this emphatic win at Recreation Park.

James Elliot excelled in the unfamiliar role of sweeper on a day when in charge assistant coach Jimmy Rae decided on changes of formation and tactics.

Berwick scored after only three minutes through Conor Scott. Allan Hay headed in the second from a corner in the 27th minute and six minutes after that, Scott scored another. In addition, Greig Tulloch spurned a couple of chances he should have buried.

Berwick continued to keep Ormiston on the backfoot at the start of the second period. Scott completed his hat-trick with a great free kick six minutes into the new half and Steven Finlayson made it 5-0 shortly afterwards.

The home side were reduced in numbers on the hour. In an action symptomatic of Ormiston’s difficulties in dealing with Berwick’s pace and pressure, Sean Guiney bodychecked speedy forward Chris Roxburgh, on loan from Penicuik Athletic, and was shown a second yellow card.

Ormiston actually posed more of a threat with ten men. Rae admitted that they were probably worth a couple of consolation goals but Reserves’ keeper Asher Tufail made two fine saves and Scott Wright twice ballooned the ball over the bar.

Berwick Rangers Reserves: Tufail, Saunderson, Brady, Hay, Elliot, Miller, Finlayson, C.Scott (Meikle 75 ), G.Tulloch, Roxburgh, Scanlan (Anderson 65).
