Clinical finishing made it 11 goals in two East of Scotland League matches for Berwick Rangers Reserves, but the final outcome did not reflect the true nature of this game.
Asher Tufail was man of the match for a superb goalkeeping display, which restricted the home side to a single goal.
Berwick were two up at half-time. Chris Roxburgh beat the offside trap in the fifth minute to lob keeper Chris Malcolm from 18 yards.
Conor Scott chested down Ross Brady’s pass and outwitted centre half Richardson on his way to the second goal.
Seven minutes after the break, Scott and Stephen Anderson teamed up to enable Ryan Scanlan to finish at close range.
Berwick played about with the ball before Anderson hit Peebles with a fourth goal, Malcolm chipped again, this time from just inside the box.
But Peebles managed to pull one back. Tufail blocked Jason Darling’s free kick. The ensuing melee ended with Craig Edgar poking the ball over the line.
Peebles, who included former Berwick player Chris Anderson, currently on loan from Spartans, were defied by Tufail a handful of times and also twice hit the post.
Keith Buckley made it five soon after replacing Scanlan.
Further creativity from Scott and Brady led to Roxburgh finishing as he had started, steadying before slotting the sixth goal into the corner of the net.
The teams meet again this Saturday at Shielfield in the Qualifying League.
