Eyemouth Utd 2-2 Burntisland Shipyard

A stunning late equaliser from full-back Alan Spiers earned Eyemouth a draw, but both teams failed to advance in the competition.

fter the previous night’s monsoon conditions the sun shone on Warner Park for the visit of Burntisland in this Qualifying Cup encounter.

The Fishermen applied the early pressure with Tom Wyman and Alan Jess pulling the strings in middle of park and Eyemouth were not allowing Burntisland to settle.

Eyemouth took the lead on 30 minutes. Connor Lough held the ball up and cushioned it into the path of Speirs, who was charging down line. His pinpoint cross was met by Burrell at far post who headed back across goal and into far corner of net.

The Fishermen almost made it two on 35 mins when an overhead kick from Williamson was tipped over bar from Burntisland keeper.

Five minutes into the second half Eyemouth were reduced to 10 men. Alan Jess was adjudged to have retaliated a bit over zealously and was shown a straight red. Play continued end to end but was also getting a bit fractious with one or two meaty challenges.

Burntisland equalised on 70 and ten minutes later they took the lead when Eyemouth were caught flat at the back and a shot trickled under the body of keeper Lugget.

However, Eyemouth grabbed a late equaliser with a 25 yard thunderbolt from Alan Spiers.
