Promotion chasing Peebles Rovers were the visitors to Warner Park on Saturday where Eyemouth were waiting to make amends on the previous week’s bad result against local rivals Duns.
Peebles started strongly and were soon testing stand in keeper Andrew Gillie from free kicks given away cheaply by the fishermen, but the Eyemouth defence, and Gillie in particular, were resilient.
But a goal did come on 17 minutes and it was for Eyemouth who were starting to take the game to Peebles.
A ball from the right was cleared only to find Alan Jess on the edge of the box where he controlled it and fired into the top right hand corner to go 1-0 up.
Soon after James Wilson almost doubled Eyemouth’s lead with a speculative shot from distance. The lead was short lived as Peebles grabbed an equalizer when McInnes was caught in possession and the visiting forward made no mistake in slotting past Gillie on 22 minutes.
Peebles then almost took the lead when they rounded the keeper only to hit the post.
It was Eyemouth who scored next to regain the lead when a shot from the right was deflected to Sean Ford who made no mistake from inside the box to take the fishermen in 2-1 up at half time
Eyemouth got off to the worst possible start to the second half but through no fault of their own. As the ball was being carried out of defence by Law he was dragged back but the referee said no foul and waved play on which caught Eyemouth on the back foot and Peebles once again equalised.
Both sides were pushing for a winner without any real penetration until 77 minutes when Peebles won a corner which sailed over the Eyemouth defence and keeper straight into net to make it 2-3.
Four minutes later Eyemouth found themselves 4-2 down after Speirs was caught in possession and the Peebles forward was allowed a straight run on goal.
Eyemouth’s misery was completed when a free kick was floated into the box and nobody tracked the runner who headed low past keeper Gillie right on full time.
