Eyemouth welcomed high flying EOS Premier division side Lothian Thistle HV to Warner Park for this King Cup 2nd round fixture.
Lothian started favourites to win this tie and showed why early in the game with flowing football putting the fishermen under pressure.
This paid off on 20 minutes with Lothian on the attack. Paddy Tillbrook lunged into a tackle inside the Eyemouth box and referee Hogg pointed to the spot. Lothian took the chance to go 1-0 up. Eyemouth began searching for the equaliser before half time but Lothian were resilient and took their one goal advantage into the break.
At the restart, as in previous weeks, Eyemouth got off to the worst possible start. Seconds after the whistle a speculative long ball from the Lothian fullback caught Eyemouth’s McInnes on the back foot and he failed to deal with the ball, allowing it to drop over his head for the Thistle forward to collect and take his team to a 2-0 lead.
Lothian were now dominating and soon increased their lead to 3-0.
The fishermen gave themselves a lifeline when they won a corner and Sean Ford found himself on the score sheet for the third week running by finding the net with a header. But the lifeline was soon cut when McInnes gave Lothian a second penalty from which they made no mistake to go 4-1 up and effectively kill off any thoughts of a fightback.
